Server Upgrades & Migration

AllureHost is always making strives to increase our performance both in customer service and server reliability.  This week we will be making hardware upgrades to our services.  We will be purchasing a more powerful server which will be used to house our accounts.  This post will attempt to explain the specific changes and what this means for you.

What will we be upgrading to?

We are upgrading to the best of the best.  We currently house our accounts on servers with Core 2 Quad processers with 4 GB of RAM and RAID-1 configured hard drives.  This setup has served us well, but we have outgrown that specification and are looking to expand our performance.  Our new configuration will feature the following:

Processor: Intel Dual Xeon Harpertown E5420 (2.50GHZ 12MB Cache) – 8 CPU’s
Memory: 8GB of DDR ECC Registered RAM
Hard Drives: 4×250GB 7.2k RPM SATAII 16MB Cache with RAID-10 Configuration

All other aspects of our hosting will remain the same, all accounts will keep their RVSkin, Softaculous, RVSiteBuilder, and R1Soft features.

When will be upgrading and migrating?

We have already purchased the necessary hardware and are working to have it properly configured to match our current setup.  This will ensure the migration will be seamless.  We have not specified a move date, but a second post will be made with the specific timeline for this migration work.  All clients will have proper notification before any changes are made that can effect the uptime of all accounts.  We expect to begin the migration by weeks end.

Speaking of downtime, will there be any?

We expect there to be a few moments of downtime during this process as we will be migrating the IPs to the new server to keep clients from having to make any DNS/nameserver alterations during this process.  We will notify you the second we have a finalized timeline for this migration and when we will expect downtime.

What do our clients need to do?

The best thing to do is make sure that you have backups of all your data for your own records and ensure that any dynamic applications running are in a closed state so that no MySQL database alterations are made during the move.  This will ensure that all client data will be up to date.

As always we will keep all clients properly informed of progress and timelines so they are aware of everything surrounding this move.  If anyone has any questions, feedback, or concerns we ask that you please email or submit a ticket to the Support Department.  Please be on the lookout for our follow-up post.
