It’s been quite a while since we have posted some additional news in our blog, but we felt it was a good time to let all of you know that AllureHost is still continuing to offer all of you the best Web Hosting experience available. What this means for you is that we will continue to bring in better hardware, innovative software, and quality customer/technical support. Over the past few days we have had a growing concern about the stability and security that Softaculous has offered us. With its lack of updates we have made the decision to drop the software installer and we will be transitioning to Softaculous.

Softaculous is a new one-click software installer that supports over 120 software installations like blogs, forums, billing software, etc. Softaculous offers tremendous update frequency along with a continuously growing list of supported software. You can learn more information by visiting our Softaculous page.  We ask that all of our clients please use the Softaculous addon to handle all of their script installations going forward.  You also have the ability to migrate and sync your Softaculous installed scripts by click on the “Sync” icon in the upper right hand corner of Softaculous.  If you need help doing this please feel free to contact us by submitting a support ticket or emailing support@allurehost.com.

We thank you for your support in choosing AllureHost as your Web Hosting provider.

WHMCS V4.1 Stable Released

Posted on 10/01/2009

comment No Comments

The folks over at WHMCS have been kind enough to release their latest WHMCS build which sports many bug fixes and new features. I would recommend that you review these features and Reseller Hosting accounts can download the latest download available in our Downloads sections. If you are upgrading, ensure you read what has changed by visiting http://wiki.whmcs.com/Version_4.1_Release_Notes.

Feature Highlights

Server Groups – designed for web hosts who want to designate specific packages going to specific servers, groups now allow you to define that for example hosting plan A can be installed on servers 1, 2 & 3, whilst hosting plan B can be installed on servers 3, 4 & 5 with options to assign new accounts until the default server is full or in a round-robin fashion to the least used server.

Disk Space & Bandwidth Overage Billing – initially supported for cPanel, DirectAdmin & Plesk, you can now specify soft limits for disk and bandwidth with the packages you sell and WHMCS will then bill users for any amount used in excess of that. Usage stats are imported from the control panels API and charges are calculated on the last day of each month with the option to be invoiced immediately or added to the users next invoice.

Configurable Options – now have the ability to hide options and sub-options from the client area order form while leaving them enabled for legacy use on existing clients accounts. Also added is the ability to set a minimum required quantity and maximum allowed value for quantity based option types.

Client Files – you can now upload individual files to users’ accounts, with the ability for them to be admin only or accessible to the client also. Files the client is allowed to see are then shown in the client area for them to download. This can be used for things like contracts, signed agreements, and anything else you need to store!

Additional Mass Mail Filter Options – the mass mail filter options have been extended to include client groups, language and custom fields. The custom field filters mean you can now easily create a “Subscribe to Newsletter” and/or “Subscribe to Notifications” checkbox in order to send mailings only to those users who have agreed to them. And the ability to select multiple criteria at a time allow for more fine tuned emailing to a wider range of clients in one go.

Custom Field Descriptions – now you can add a description to your custom fields in order to advise the user on how or what should be entered into the field.

Bulk Pricing Update Utility – this is a new addon utility which allows you to make mass updates to existing clients products, services, addons and/or domains pricing for their next invoices.

Addon Auto Activation & Welcome Emails – now have the ability to set welcome emails for addons which can be automatically sent on payment and a hook point for activation which allows you to add your own code for provisioning

Additional API Functions – Lots of new API calls have been added providing data retrieval methods for remote apps and there is now a choice of 2 response types, name/value pairs as previously and XML. New Modules

  • Dot.TK
  • Hexonet
  • Cloudmin
  • InterWorx (Update)
  • Moneris
  • TrustCommerce
  • PSIGate Refunds
  • Payflow Pro SDK Update

Admin Usability Enhancements

  • Invoice Items Preview – from the admin area invoice lists you can now preview the line items of those invoices simply by clicking the total amount thanks to a fancy ajax tool!
  • Cancel & Refund Order Button – a new order action which automates refunding of the invoice and cancelling of the order including termination of any automatically provisioned services in a single automated action – a real time saver!
  • Intelligent Search CC Last Four – entering the last 4 digits of a credit card into intelligent search will now locate the user that card belongs to
  • Add Transaction as Credit – added a checkbox when entering transactions to define if the transaction amount should be added to the clients credit balance as pre-payment thus saving a step and making it easier to do
  • Client Balance Statement – a new report has been setup which gives an account register overview for a client totalling debits and credits for the clients account accessible from the Client Summary page of any client
  • My Notes on All Pages – you can now view your personal admin notes from any page and make changes (previously shown on the admin homepage only)

  • Enom SSL Resend – the enom SSL module has now had a resend configuration email button added to be able to resend it on request for previously ordered certificates
  • Cleanup Utilities – added attachment cleanup option to remove old attachments from tickets

Support Ticketing

  • View Ticket Admin Template – the admin view ticket page is now templated allowing you to completely customise the layout & data shown for tickets making it work exactly the way you want.
  • Support Tickets CC – individual tickets can now have additional email addresses entered for where replies should be CC’d to and replies only go to the client and contact that opened the ticket, not all contacts
  • Merge With Another Ticket – you can now enter a Ticket ID when viewing a ticket to merge with instead of having to locate and select both in the same list
  • Support Ticket Pipe Replies Only – a new option has been added to departments to enable piping of replies to tickets but disallow opening of tickets by email and thus require opening from the client area – a great way to eliminate spam!
  • Support Ticket Reply Email Logging – added the ability to disable saving of email messages for ticket replies (as they just duplicate the ticket itself)

Client Area Enhancements

  • Client Area My Details Update Confirmations – Now a green successful confirmation message shows when a client submits a change. Previously, it has shown a red error box for failure but no confirmation on success.
  • Password Reset Process – the reset process will now ask the user for their account security question response if set before first sending a confirmation to their email address with a link which needs to be followed to authorize the request when a new password is then generated and emailed to the user
  • Announcements Pagination – the announcement page will now display 10 announcements per page with links to move forward and back between the pages.

Miscellaneous

Server Migration Schedule

Posted on 09/26/2009

comment No Comments

We have defined a time-frame for when we will be starting our migration process. We will begin the process Sunday, September 27th at midnight. The process should be completed by early Monday morning and we do anticipate downtime of services during the move as we will be transferring over your IP addresses to the new server. There is no estimated time for how long the services will be unreachable, but we will be working diligently to ensure services are restored promptly!

As always we welcome clients to ask questions by contacting us directly. Please feel free to email support@allurehost.com with any feedback. Also, we ask that clients using any dynamic software that writes to a database turn the software off if at all possible. This will ensure that your database is up-to-date after the migration has been successfully completed.

Server Upgrades & Migration

Posted on 09/22/2009

AllureHost is always making strives to increase our performance both in customer service and server reliability.  This week we will be making hardware upgrades to our services.  We will be purchasing a more powerful server which will be used to house our accounts.  This post will attempt to explain the specific changes and what this means for you.

What will we be upgrading to?

We are upgrading to the best of the best.  We currently house our accounts on servers with Core 2 Quad processers with 4 GB of RAM and RAID-1 configured hard drives.  This setup has served us well, but we have outgrown that specification and are looking to expand our performance.  Our new configuration will feature the following:

Processor: Intel Dual Xeon Harpertown E5420 (2.50GHZ 12MB Cache) – 8 CPU’s
Memory: 8GB of DDR ECC Registered RAM
Hard Drives: 4×250GB 7.2k RPM SATAII 16MB Cache with RAID-10 Configuration

All other aspects of our hosting will remain the same, all accounts will keep their RVSkin, Softaculous, RVSiteBuilder, and R1Soft features.

When will be upgrading and migrating?

We have already purchased the necessary hardware and are working to have it properly configured to match our current setup.  This will ensure the migration will be seamless.  We have not specified a move date, but a second post will be made with the specific timeline for this migration work.  All clients will have proper notification before any changes are made that can effect the uptime of all accounts.  We expect to begin the migration by weeks end.

Speaking of downtime, will there be any?

We expect there to be a few moments of downtime during this process as we will be migrating the IPs to the new server to keep clients from having to make any DNS/nameserver alterations during this process.  We will notify you the second we have a finalized timeline for this migration and when we will expect downtime.

What do our clients need to do?

The best thing to do is make sure that you have backups of all your data for your own records and ensure that any dynamic applications running are in a closed state so that no MySQL database alterations are made during the move.  This will ensure that all client data will be up to date.

As always we will keep all clients properly informed of progress and timelines so they are aware of everything surrounding this move.  If anyone has any questions, feedback, or concerns we ask that you please email or submit a ticket to the Support Department.  Please be on the lookout for our follow-up post.

AllureHost, a provider of cPanel/WHM-based Web Hosting and Reseller Hosting solutions, announced today it has deployed LiteSpeed Web Server to replace Apache on its entire fleet of Linux hosting servers. First introduced in 2002, LiteSpeed offers the industry’s leading alternative to Apache, the default web server used most widely on Linux servers. In comparison to Apache, LiteSpeed offers significantly greater system efficiency and enhanced performance for PHP-powered web sites. “We have an obligation to our customers to offer the best-optimized, most robust hosting environment possible. While we have enjoyed years of stability and security with Apache, we have deployed LiteSpeed to take our hosting platform to the next level, and ultimately meet the need for efficiency and performance,” said John Lewis, AllureHost CEO. LiteSpeed’s compatibility with Apache also has enabled AllureHost to execute a seamless transition between the two technologies. Hosting users are not required to modify web site configuration or make changes to scripts with the deployment of LiteSpeed. AllureHost hosts customers in the WiredTree 427 LaSalle data center facility, located adjacent to the Chicago Board of Trade in downtown Chicago. The facility is SAS 70 certified and features three 3000 Amp, 480 Volt, three-phase power feeds from multiple sub-stations. In the event of power grid failure, the facility can run autonomously on three 2-MegaWatt (MW) electrical generators. WiredTree utilizes a variety of data transit providers, including Level(3), Sprint, Savvis, NTT Communications, and Cogent Communications. To learn more about AllureHost, please visit http://www.allurehost.com. About AllureHost Founded in September 2005 by former webmasters, AllureHost is a provider of cPanel/WHM-based Shared and Reseller Hosting solutions for individuals and businesses. That’s right folks! We will be switching to LiteSpeed within the next couple of hours and I just wanted to post this to remind our clients. We sent out a few email reminders but I also noticed some of you check the blog as well. Timeframe: Thursday, March 5th at 10:00PM CST (11:00PM EST) Status: Completed We expect the switch to rather smooth and almost unnoticeable, but once on the platform you will notice the improvement in performance. We are very happy to be making this move and embarking on our journey to become a world-renowned high-performance Web Hosting company. This is only the first step of many in this journey of ours and we are glad you could be part of it. As always we encourage our clients to contact us at the first sign of trouble. We do not expect to see any issues, but it is always best to be prepared for anything! We will be right here to help you just in case you notice any specific issues during the switch. All you will need to do is login to the Client Area and submit a ticket to the Support Department explaining your issue. Update: The switch has been delayed due to PHP configuration migration problems during our initial LiteSpeed move earlier this morning. We are in contact with LiteSpeed about this issue and hope to continue the move later tonight at 10:00PM CST (11:00PM EST). We apologize for the delay the “Internal Server Errors” that were being displayed. We have pushed back the switch to off-peak hours to avoid further issues with your sites functioning. Update #2: We have completed the migration over to LiteSpeed! Thanks everyone for your patience and enjoy. If you have any issues please let us know by submitting a support ticket.
